home again, home again, jiggety-jog

We wearily arrived back home at 9:30 last night. We had a terrific weekend get-a-way at Rob’s house. I think we were able to help make some great memories for the girls. Isn’t that really what it’s all about? Memories of fun childhood adventures are priceless. James and I enjoyed seeing the Colorado mountains, too. They are so incredibly breathtaking. Especially, Sunday morning, as the clouds cleared, revealing enormous white mountains behind the beautiful foothills. Rob’s place is just a few minutes drive from the foothills.

Friday, we arrived around 4 o’clock and took over Rob’s home–or so it seemed as we carried our immense van load of necessities into Rob’s neat, little bachelor pad! We got settled and the girls had a slumber party in the living room. They were so excited! We ate pizza and popcorn and watched the Incredibles and Iron Giant on Rob’s wall. Yeah, no kidding. He made a giant movie screen for his wall. It’s really incredible! The kids were in awe of it!

This picture doesn’t do it justice. The room was totally dark except for the movie being projected onto the wall. It was really high quality!

Bless Rob’s heart, he gave us his room for James and I and Anjelia’s portable bed, and he slept on the sofa in the living room with the girls!

Saturday morning, we had breakfast and headed out for the day. We visited a park and McDonalds and then headed for the foothills, where we visited Red Rock.

James and Rob looking at the mountains.

The foothills.

We walked up to the top of Red Rock. We were very out of breath, as the air is so thin up there. I am no longer in denial about my asthma, because I had a scary attack by the time we made it to the top! Rob, saved the day, and ran all the way down back to the van to retrieve my inhaler.

Awwww, my family. Wow, I forget we ARE a big family!

The kids were excited and worried at the same time. They thought we were going to head for the big mountains and start climbing! Anjelia kept pointing at all the mountains and saying, “Fall down. . .fall down. . .”!

I know the kids wore Rob out! They wanted his attention constantly. He was lots of fun for them!

Saturday evening, I did something I’ve never done before. . . I met someone in person that I’ve only known on-line! Sarah has been posting on my blog and I on hers. You’ve probably read her comments on here and if you want to visit her blog it’s called Cool Cucumber. It’s listed in my links. She discovered Rob’s blog, on another blog, which is how she found my blog! Does that make sense? In other words, we’ve all been posting on each other’s blogs. Sarah and I have even e-mailed each other a few times! Needless to say, I really like her and the chance of us meeting was perfect timing. She lives in Colorado and was in Denver, Saturday, for some teacher training. Her brother, Mark, lives just a few minutes from Rob, and they both stopped by to meet us and visit. It’s a small world after all!

We put the kids to bed early and had some much needed adult time. We drank coffee and visited and ordered take-out Chinese. It was fun making new friends, although we kinda felt like we already knew each other. We all agreed it was odd, but in a good way. We had a great time!

James took a picture of us blog pals!

Yesterday morning, we headed home for a somewhat long, tiring drive. Well, especially for Anjelia. Poor baby. In another year, traveling will be so much easier for her, and as a result, easier for us! The big girls behaved wonderfully and did well keeping themselves occupied on the road. I am very tired today, but very grateful for our adventure.

Thanks Rob!

  2. Yeah, it was a blast!

I didn’t want to leave Sunday with the mountains looking so beautiful. Oh well, it gives us reason to head back up there in a few months.

Melissa, I’m sorry that you missed out on the adventure. :evil

Anyway, it was great getting to meet Sarah and her brother while we were there.

Rob, you keep talking about having a cat but I never saw one. :rotfl

  3. What beautiful photos of your family! I’m glad you had such a great time, and it was a lot of fun for Mark and I to hang out with you guys.

You got “It’s a Small World” stuck in my head, though, with that comment! Thanks a lot!

  4. Now you can hum it in the classroom for the rest of the afternoon!

James commented that he hoped you guys enjoyed us married folk with all the kids!

I only regret that I was sooooo tired that night!

  5. Fun,fun!! We go through those beautiful mountains when we go see our daughter and her family in Utah. We never get tired of seeing them. Those pictures are great!!!! :cool

  6. Great pictures of a beautiful area, great family and a marvelous host. I love the west, but love Missouri the best. πŸ˜€

  7. James–nice evil laugh you got going there! I almost missed it! Rob did forewarn me that you would be giving me some grief! –it’s worked too, I’m green with envy! :rolleyes

  8. your title makes me laugh, Jules! My mom used to say that every time we would arrive home from being out and about. At the time, it drove me crazy, but now it’s sentimental and I find myself saying it to Jim!

  9. Iron Giant is a great movie!
I am glad you all had fun.
This will be a great memory for Lydia and Jessica.
You and james need to go there by yourself next year.
    Old Kandis

  10. I would love to go by ourselves sometime too! We try to get away alone each year for our anniversary. Maybe we should try to do it then. I wish our anniversary wasn’t so far away. I hate waiting a whole year for it to come back around!!

    Great idea Kandi!!!

  11. Your title cracked me up, too! My Dad always said that when we pulled into the driveway. Where did that come fron?

I love your pics Jules! Love the one of the girls with Rob especially.

Your trip looks really fun! Glad your asthma attack was okay. That was scary I’m sure.

Glad your back in town. Just knowing you were away made me miss you, friend!

  12. I knew we were in for a treat when you got your pic. into your blog. Great pic. Looks like you packed a lot of fun into a short time. Good idea of a great get-away for your Anni. I can’t get over how much you look like Deb in your last pic. Julie.
Good to meet Sarah, its nice to put a face to a name. We are thankful you made it home safely.

  13. It’s an old English nursery rhyme:

    “To market, to market, to buy a fat pig;
Home again, home again, dancing a jig.
    To market, to market, to buy a fat hog;
    Home again, home again, jiggety-jog.
    To market, to market, to buy a plum bun;
Home again, home again, market is done.”

  14. Apparently, I am not as clever as I thought. I googled my title of this post to find that nursery rhyme and there were many blogs with posts with that same title!!

  15. I guess I have heard that nursery rhyme. . .I just forgot about it. Glad to know where that saying came from.

What would we do without “google”.

  16. I remember when we traveled as little kids, we kept asking daddy if we were about there. He always said “Over the next hill” well needless to say, Punky or I were always ready over the next hill with, are we about there? Daddy, of course said “Over the next hill”. It was a game for him I guess and Loved it. Did your kids out of curiousity, say the same thing? :rolleyes

  17. wow, that sarah girl sounds really cool! very cool that you guys were able to meet!

  18. They had no idea how long a drive it was even though we tried to explain it.

Just a little ways into Kansas, we stopped for a potty break. Elaina saw a big pile of gravel, probably belonging to KDOT. Elaina got excited and said, “Look, a mountain! Are we there?!” I guess you had to be there. It was really cute.

  19. I’m not a real “Colorado” lover(rather be on the beach)but there is something absolutely refreshing about seeing those mountains after the Kansas drive. I’ve only done it twice but now with DVD players it wouldn’t be as bad. Never with a two year old. You must have needed this trip bad!

  20. I’m jealous of the projector, can’t afford it and you need a dark room, but they really are the best for movie viewing.

  21. Yeah, sara, she is pretty cool. :)

  22. I am with you, Tom. Give me a two piece, an innertube and the ocean and I am in heaven! James loves the beauty associated with cooler climates, so I need to be flexible! Someday, I am going to Hawaii!

  23. Jules, I won’t complain about you, a two piece and Hawaii!

  24. how fun!
sounds like you guys had a blast!

  25. Yes, Angela, we did. I am still trying to recover though. It really wore me out. Traveling with several young children is wearing. It was worth it though. I am hoping tomorrow I’ll be back to myself! I had Mother’s Day Out today and I think that really helped me. I needed it!

  26. James you sly dog, you!

  27. I’m so glad you guys got to do this, it looks like you had a great time! I’m sure Rob is worn out as well! Colorado is beautiful and I’m glad you and the kiddos had a chance to go to Red Rock…I loved visiting there as a kid. Cool too that you got to hook up with Sarah. Hope you have a restful week now that you’re back!

  28. Your girls are adorable!

  29. I mosied up the stairs, Kelli showed me the pictures in Colorado. They are beautiful. I was
admiring the fall trees here in our area. They
have beautiful reds, yellows and oranges. Deb and
I took a ride in the country last week to see all the beautiful fall colors.
I have some beautiful great-grandchildren I see. I would love to see you all sometime.
I’ve been feeling better and even off Celebrex!
I sang in church the other Sunday and we have it on DVD, I haven’t done that in so long.

  30. Mama,it sure is good to see ya on here. What a surprise. You used to live in Denver, I bet it looked familiar to you did’nt it? Visit more often. πŸ˜€

  31. I didn’t know Grandma used to live in Denver. There’s so much I don’t know.

Grandma, I am very honored to have you post a comment. Now that James took the plunge to Denver, I think he can be convinced to make the drive back your way! I’ve been working on him. The last time we drove out there was a bit of a disaster. I think he may be getting over the shell shock! I hope to see you sometime in the coming year!!! :love I am excited about the idea!!!!

  32. Maybe we can make the trip sometime this year!

  33. Just dont drive to Tennesse by grandmatootsie’s way………. Heck we could have went on down to the coast the way we were headed….
:angel :angel πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ :moon :moon :moon
    Just teasing mom………
Jules I have never been to the Ocean so in the next couple of years I am taking Ian and we will have an adventure or kill one another probably the latter.
Ian loves ocean stuff so we will have a blast someday. I want to kiss a dolphin and swim with the stingrays…………..

  34. Kandi, one of my dreams is to swim with dolphins. I think that would be such an exhilarating experience!

I hope you guys get to go!

  35. SWIM with sting-rays….why don’t you just swim with the jellyfish while you’re at it! :eek I didn’t know you were a thrill seeker, Kandis. The next time you viait here, we’ll take you to the Aquarium. You can pet sting-rays there (and they have their stingers removed!)

  36. Julie, Gma Vera LOVED your site. She loved seeing the pictures and reading everyone’s comments. And I told her how excited that we all were that she posted.

  37. We’re going to have to get that computer moved down stairs across the hall from mama to a bigger room and then move mama in and let her have at it. Make her a GEEK GMA. πŸ˜€ The :evil made me think of that. :rotfl

  38. speechless…In a very good sense!I like your ducks, you know that – but your other stuffI like even more! Indeed, one of my favoriteswith this piece you have blown me away. even MORE reepsct!
