it’s a wonderful life

Today my baby turned two years old!!! It’s hard to believe that two years ago I was in the hospital with Anjelia!! It’s fun to think about those early days but I must admit, as much as I miss her being a little baby, I am glad those days are behind me. (Having three small kiddos and a new baby was a test. I was so tired, half the time I couldn’t remember her name!) My baby is becoming a sweet little girl! She giggles a lot and says, “That’s funny!”. She is developing a sense of humor and she says new things everyday! She is my angel baby and I love her sooooo much! I am sooo thankful to have a fourth daughter.

We celebrated on Friday evening with cake and ice cream and gifts. She caught on to the whole birthday thing real fast and we all had a great time.

This weekend we had a fun family reunion. My grandma Dorothy’s 80th birthday is next week. Much of her family met last night for dinner and this afternoon for dinner and a surprise birthday party! We’ve enjoyed having Grandma closer and being able to see her more often.

This morning we did my favorite thing!!! I went garage hopping with my mom, cousin and aunts! Boy did we have a super fun, totally dorky time! I love doing things with my family because there is no ceiling put on how silly you can act. The sky’s the limit and that’s very healthy in this stressful world!

Me, Mom, Aunt Linda, Aunt Marilyn and Kandi. All I can say is, “Strong genes!”

This is our loot we picked up at one garage sale! We asked the homeowner if she would take our picture. She asked us if this was the first garage sale we’d ever been too! We had to make a couple of trips back to my house to unload the van! Later, I ended up with a new china cabinet too. I will post a pic after I get it set up.

I love my family and thanks for the fun!

I had James take my pic with each of my girls on their birthday. I am proud of my birthday girls!

“You’re thought about more often than you probably can guess, and thoughts of you just naturally bring smiles of happiness. Now, that it’s your birthday, may each and every warm thought, bring a wish for all the best in life, and all your favourite things.”

Happy Birthday, Elaina

September 5, 2001 was most definitely one of the most incredible of days for James and I. After 17 hours of labor, our little Elaina Joy was born at 8:05 pm, weighing in at 8 lbs 3 oz. It is fun to remininsce! I am reminded today that Jessica came back home on this day 4 years ago, too! Dual miracles!

Saturday afternoon we threw a little surprise party for Elaina. She spent Friday night at Mom’s. She was surprised when she walked through the door with a room full of people singing Happy Birthday!! She stood there shocked, trying to process what was happening! She thought Mom and Larry were just bringing her home.

Princesses were the theme of her party. She loves princesses and she loves the idea of being a princess. Her favorite color is pink and she has a fondness for monkeys, too! She likes to tease and she often calls us booger knockers and turkey piggies in hopes of being tickled.

Elaina is our little miss happy pants, the world is a playground, silly girl! She definitely lives up to her middle name, Joy!!! She’s glad to be four years old and she says she wants to stay four forever! I can’t tell you how much fun and silliness she adds to our home. Now that the big girls are back in school, I’ve enjoyed having my baby back all to myself!

One thing that I can’t do without when it comes to birthday parties or any celebration is my Creamy Pink Punch. It’s the best punch recipe EVER! It was handed down to me at a baby shower several years ago. It’s dessert in a glass! You will LOVE this!

Creamy Pink Punch

Ingredients:

1 gallon raspberry sherbert
1 quart vanilla ice cream
1 quart cranberry/raspberry juice
1 quart club soda
1 quart 7-up

Directions:

Soften ice cream and sherbert. Add cranberry/raspberry drink. Using a wire whisk, blend until smooth. Add club soda and 7-up.

For a small party I half the recipe. This yields a large amount.

“Sing a song of Birthdays Full of fun and cheer And may you keep on having them For many a happy year.”

the little ones

I have been watching the Fox news channel quite a bit this week. I get curious about how things are going in Louisiana and Mississipi and turn it on. Some of the images have made me feel sick in spirit. The hardest have been the children. It must be due to the stage of life I’m in. The other day I saw video of a desperate mom sitting on the side of the highway in New Orleans crying. She was holding a limp five day old baby with a fever. If you’ve had kids you know the pediatricians warn of fevers in babies under 8 weeks old. It’s considered a medical emergency. I have been praying for that child and her mom. Hopefully they are in a safe place now. I’m sure the mom was in need of sanitary supplies herself after having just given birth.

There have been other images of children in need. That has to be one of the worst situations to be in, unable to take care of the physical needs of your babies. I am so thankful for my family and my home. I am thankful that I can take care of my kids and I have all I need to meet their needs. I hope and pray that the people of our great nation cry out to God during this time. May His salvation and deliverance and provision and protection be to those affected by this disaster.

He takes care of His flock like a shepherd. He gathers the lambs in his arms. He carries them close to His heart. He gently leads those that have little ones. Isaiah 40:11
