your witness

Rob helped me find a great quote from a movie, Shall We Dance. James and I recently watched this little film and enjoyed it. I think this quote is a great description of marriage, but I also think it helps define all of our relationships. I believe Karen has mentioned it on this blog, too. Thanks for being my witness!

We need a witness to our lives. There’s a billion people on the planet… I mean, what does any one life really mean? But in a marriage, you’re promising to care about everything. The good things, the bad things, the terrible things, the mundane things… all of it, all of the time, every day. You’re saying ‘Your life will not go unnoticed because I will notice it. Your life will not go un-witnessed because I will be your witness’.”

  1. Gil’s life will not go unnoticed, I am a witness to his life each day. I feel I know him better than anyone and am sure most people don’t know how loving and caring he is. I thank God for him and we can say” Shall we dance.” We saw that movie too. It was good, but sad in some ways.

  2. I am sure your Dance story is much better than the movie! I hope James and I can someday find an activity we enjoy together as much as you and Gil love to dance. Right now, when we get time alone we eat or watch a movie! I love to go for walks but James doesn’t really enjoy that much. I also love road trips but James hates those! Someday we’ll find something more exciting, that we both enjoy doing.

Someday, we’d like to go to a coffee house together every morning.

Don’t get me wrong, he’s my fave person to hang with!! We really enjoy each other!

  3. Tommy used to come home Friday nights and we enjoyed spur of the moment. Get Kandi to bed and sit out in the garden in the dark and eat watermelon, walk in the garden or just watch tv. We danced in columbia, but I’ve never seen that movie. Is it new?

  4. What a wonderful quote! I am so glad that Carl is my witness. :love

  5. Great quote. Someday I’ll get over my loathing of Richard Gere and JLO and watch that movie.

  6. Yeah, we aren’t fans either. For some reason, we like to watch movies about dance. That’s the only reason we watched it. It was worth it for the quote!

  7. I understand a little better this morning and since God told me the night Tommy died that he was with him, I’m hoping Tommy will be my witness. I pray to God that I will join Tommy and him some day.

  8. Jules, do you and Jimmy dance? How fun! Great passtime too.

  9. No we don’t but my aunt and uncle go dancing every saturday night.

  10. Julie and I arm wrestle.

  11. Oh, you should take it up! I bet you would love it. Dancing that is, not arm wrestling.

  12. I have a problem with J Lo and Richard Gere, too, so haven’t wanted to see this movie either. Now I’m re-considering. I wonder how long it will take for the local library to get that movie. (We’ve sworn off renting movies for awhile. Part of our budget cuts!)

  13. And I love the quote. People often search for the thing they can do to immortalize themselves. But they miss the biggest thing sometimes. The way we live our daily lives immortalizes us in the hearts of those who love us.

I love that Steve and my boys will be my witness on earth. Ultimately when I stand before my Heavenly Father, Christ will be my witness, saying, “She’s with me!”

Seriously, netflix is the best thing we have ever done. All the movies you can watch for $18.75 a month.

I think they now have a $9.99 option too.

Anyway, the supporting cast is what makes this movie anyway, not J Lo or Gere.

  15. I just wish god would send me someone to dance with!!!!
Oh well me and Ian have fun dancing in the living room.

  16. Is this movie, Shall We Dance, something new? Where did you see it?

  17. It was out in theatres about a year ago. It can be rented.

I am nervous about recommending movies because tastes are so different and what may or may not offend varies so much person to person. 😀 James and I enjoyed it.

  18. What a neat quote! Here’s to the future…
