the blind guy

Today the blind guy came to my home and installed our new blinds. I am so excited to have some privacy. I’m also hoping the kids will stop getting up at 6 AM with the sun.

He was so kind to the girls. They were so curious and excited about what he was doing. He put them to work sorting the small parts into boxes. They did a perfect job for him. They followed him around while he worked chattering away. Bless his heart he listened and engaged them in conversation. People that are patient and kind to my kiddos score big in my book!

My bedroom is so dark and cozy now. I daydreamed all day about taking a relaxing, long nap.

My mind is at ease now knowing the girls have privacy in the family room. It feels creepy not having window coverings at ground level.

The blinds were installed just in time for my first house guests. I am so excited to now have a home big enough for overnight company. My Aunts Punkie and Tootsie and my Mom are spending Friday night. We’ll be up at the crack of dawn getting ready for garage sales. I am glad they will have proper privacy!

No Wonder I get tired!

I read an article this morning that gave my fatigue confirmation. The average stay-at-home mom puts in a 92 hour work week! CHECK IT OUT! I’d like a piece of that 138,000 salary. Maybe James needs to buy a little more life insurance on me!

I LOVE being a stay-at-home Mom! It’s my passion and my heart. The Lord really encouraged me this morning with this article. It feels good to know that I’m doing exactly what I’ve been called to do and I don’t need to feel guilty about it. Thank you Lord!

this week’s highlights

I took my two older girls to our church’s Mother / Daughter banquet. We had a fun time. Next year Elaina will get to join us! I love being a Mom to my girls. They are my joy!

My mom and my cousin Kandis called me at 6:12 AM Saturday morning. They were headed to my house to do some shopping at my community garage sales. We had a BLAST. My very favorite activity is garage saling. The Lord always blesses me with good deals. I am so thankful. My home needed rugs and now I have all I need. I barely spent anything on them and they are sooooooo lovely! As you can see, we were very pleased with our finds! The prices were right!

Mom just called to tell me that my Aunties, Punky and Tootsie, are headed our way Saturday to do it again. I am soooooo stinkin’ excited. I can’t wait!!!!!! I wish Kandis could come back down, too.

I am soooooo thankful to have a family that’s so fun loving and not at all afraid to be dorky. Life is too difficult to be too serious all the time. I am glad I have people in my life that I can be a complete dork around. Life would lack color for me if I had to be serious all the time. So. . . here’s a big thanks to my family and friends! You know who you are!

Did anyone see American Idol last night? Oh my goodness!!!!! That was TV viewing at it’s best!!!!! My heart was doing flip flops! I am so proud of Phil! WOW!!!!! And Blake. . .he was AWESOME. James and I called in and voted for Blake. That was such a creative performance! I think I need to watch it just one more time. . . I can’t wait to see Bon Jovi tonight on the results show. Last night was rockin!!!!!

Lydia’s ninth birthday!

I had a moment of panic this weekend when it really hit me that my oldest daughter had turned nine years old! Oh my goodness! That’s one year from double digits! I have recovered from my panic attack and am doing well now!

Lydia, as you can tell, was delighted to be having a slumber party with her girlfriends. I absolutely LOVED the last two weekends of hysterical giggle fits and running and club housing in the storage room. I think I nearly had as much fun as the girls! Being a mom keeps getting more and more fun as the girls get older. I relived my days of overnights with girlfriends and it was as fun as I remembered! Lydia said it was the best day of her life!

All the girls were so sweet and so good both weekends, while having a wildly fun time. I think I’ve rested up and have nearly fully recovered! I think they have, too!

My mom gave my four girls and my niece, Emily, gift cards from Libby Lu for Christmas. Saturday we headed for the mall. We had a fabulous time! The girls got to dress up in the dressing room. They each had their hair and make up done. Jessica chose a more conservative updo while the others went for pink streaks and curls. They all looked incredibly cute. Once the makeover was complete they got to dance in the middle of the store. It was very funny. A crowd formed to see the show.

The girls left with goodie bags full of girlie treasures. We didn’t want them to be all made up and no place to go, so we went out to eat before heading home. They received lots of attention from everyone!

Happy Birthday, Jessica Faith!!

Today we are celebrating Jessica’s 8th birthday!! She is having two girlfriends over tonight for a sleep over. I am so excited!!! I can’t wait ’till the girls get here. We are going to have so much fun!

Do you think I purchased a big enough balloon? The sales gal at Party America told me to never throw away a mylar balloon. People save them and bring them in and they refill them for free! She said some people come in with a grocery bag full of old balloons and have them refilled. I did not know this. I’ve thrown away so many balloons! I am so excited about this bit of knowledge. I thought you may be too!

kindergarten preparations

Elaina is ecstatic about the idea of starting kindergarten. Her eyes were as big as saucers at kindergarten information night. She toured a classroom and even got to go on a little bus ride! She’s going to go to pre-kindergarten summer school in June. All the girls have loved the pre-k summer program.

She’s so excited that she couldn’t wait to get her shots. Anything that is preparation for kindergarten excites her.

She excitedly wiggled and squirmed on the table while waiting for the Dr. She’s in her favorite attire — her Superman pajamas. She wears them every night. Before our appointment, she had her Mother’s Day Out slumber party. She got to wear her favorite pjs and since her Dr. appointment was right after school, she wore her pajamas to her check up.

Grandpa D. saves a pair of jammies from each of his grandkids. On a recent overnight, he tried to keep the Superman pajamas, but after a call from Elaina he brought them back the next day. It was very funny. We all got a good laugh out of it. Elaina told him he could have them after she gets her spring pair of Superman jammies. It’s getting pretty warm here so I’ll bet we’ll be shopping soon!

Larry bought a new truck for Mom to take to auctions! Do you think Mom’s auction treasures will fit in there? Hehe!!

this age worms the heart

Anjelia has discovered the joy of worms! She’s been keeping a little one in a bowl full of dirt. Today she found a gasoline can and mistook it for a watering can. After “watering” my daffodils with gasoline, several giant earthworms came up out of the ground gasping for air. I rinsed them off over and over until the smell of gasoline was gone and she happily skipped away with her bowl full of worms. She sits and talks to them and tells them how beautiful they are! Silly girl!!!

Happy Valentine’s Day

I read a valentine book to the girls today. It has lovely illustrations that I wish you could see. I hope you enjoy this sweet story.

ADELINE

In the kingdom of Zeeland, where the lilacs grow wild,
lived Adeline Addison, a beautiful child.
Her little house stood between two silver streams
that flowed through the Valley of Valentine Dreams.

Now all the creatures of Zeeland loved Valentine’s Day.
But Adeline loved it in every way.

So on Valentine’s morning
she took extra care
to find her most beautiful
outfit to wear.

With great care she put on
her little pink shirt
with her little pink hat
and her little pink skirt,

then patiently sat in her little pink chair
while she twisted a curl
in her strawberry hair.

She looked at the clock (it was a quarter till nine)
as she wondered who’d bring her the first valentine.

RING-A-LING!
went the doorbell.
“Now who could that be?”
she remarked to herself
as she went to go see.

“Why, it’s Hector P. Swine, the pig from next door!–
You’ve never dropped in for a visit before.”

“Dearest Adeline,” Hector announced with a grin,
“I have something for you!”
So she let the pig in.

Hector gave her an envelope, lacy and pink,
with her name printed neatly in Indian ink.

Little Adeline’s fingers
excitedly shook
as she opened the greeting card,
taking a look.

The message was small, but its meaning was big
and remarkably neat to be penned by a pig.

Dearest Adeline, You are the one I will always adore
but there is another who loves you much more.

“Why, thank you,” said Adeline
as she kissed Hector’s snout.
“But who’s this admirer you’re talking about?”

“I’m sorry said Hector,
“I really can’t say,
but this much I’ll tell you:
You’ll find out today.

Yet now I must leave you
and check on Aunt Sue–
she got caught in the rain
and came down with Swine Flu!”

So he left our sweet Adeline scratching her head
as she thought about all that the porker had said.

A little while later, but just like before,
another kind visitor came to her door.

“My goodness!” cried Adeline, greeting her guest.
“It’s Elmer P. Toad in a coat, tie, and vest!”

“My sweet Adeline,” Elmer declared with a ribbit,
“my feelings for you are too strong to inhibit.
So I brought you this card. See? I made it myself
from an old lily pad that I had on my shelf.”

Little Adeline’s face was so happy it glowed
as she opened the valentine made by the toad:

“You are the one I will always adore.
But there is another who loves you much more.”

“Why thank you,” said Adeline. “You are so nice,
though it’s odd that I’ve gotten this same message twice.”

“Don’t despair,” replied Elmer, “for soon you will know
who has sent you this message,
but now I must go.”

“Elmer, wait!” pleaded Adeline. “Give me a hint.”
(For she wanted to know what these valentines meant.)

“Very well,” said the toad, feeling put on the spot.
“I can’t say who it is, but I’ll say who it’s not.

It isn’t the owl from high on the perch.
It isn’t the preacher from Uncle Ed’s church.

It isn’t your mom who buys you the shoes
or the little red fox who likes to play blues.

It isn’t the cow from your grandmother’s farm.
It’s none of these people, so don’t twist my arm!”

Then Elmer left Adeline wondering when
she’d hear from her sweetest admirer again.

Well, all afternoon up to Adeline’s door
came admirers and callers and suitors galore.

There were rabbits and llamas
and monkeys and cats
and limousine drivers
in shiny black hats.

Thousands of wishes from thousands
of creatures–she even got one
from her Sunday school teachers!

The line of admirers stretched all the way down
to the governor’s house in the center of town.

And strange as it seems, when each visitor came
the valentine message was always the same:

“You are the one I will always adore.
But there is another who loves you much more.”

And when the very last friend
had dropped in to inspire her,
Adeline still hadn’t heard
from her secret admirer.

She looked over the cards
that she had collected.
There were thousands more valentines
than she ever expected.

They were piled on the chairs!
They were piled on the floor!
They were piled in the rubber tree plant by the door!
They were piled in the bathtub and piled on the bed!
They were piled even higher than a dinosaur’s head!

So Adeline cleared off her little pink chair,
and she sat down, exhausted, and whispered a prayer:

“I thank you, dear God, for this beautiful day,
for the thousands of valentines you sent my way.
But tell me, dear God, I am asking you, please,
who could possibly care for me
more than all these?”

“My dear child,” whispered God in a voice small and still,
“you have asked me to tell you, and tell you I will.

These valentine wishes have helped you to see
that the one who loves Adeline greatest is ME!

I gave you your family.
I gave you good friends.
I gave you your hair that curls up on the ends.
I gave you the flowers.
I gave you the trees.
I gave you milk chocolate. I gave you Swiss cheese!

All things in this world I have given with pleasure
to show you, my child, that it’s YOU that I treasure.”

Then a thought flooded Adeline’s heart to the brim:
“If God loves me this much, then I’ll live for him!

And the love I’ve discovered is much too profound
to keep all to myself–I must tell the whole town!”

So Adeline bundled up all of her cards
and carried them quickly out into the yard.

In and out, out and in, she went hundreds of times
as she made a huge pile with her valentine rhymes.

Higher and higher the stack of her lovely cards grew,
past the rooftops and treetops and mountaintops too.

Soon Adeline’s towering mound could be seen
from the east to the west and all places between.

Then high to the top of this
mountain she flew
to post a big sign that read,
GOD LOVES YOU TOO!

Then Valentine Mountain
as it came to be known,
was a message of love
from God’s heavenly throne
to a kingdom of creatures
who might not have heard,
had it not been for Adeline’s
mound of kind words.

Then Adeline Addison tucked herself in
and pulled her pink blanket way up to her chin
and thought to herself as she drifted away,
“God’s love makes every day
Valentine’s Day!”

I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge–that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. Ephesians 3:16-19
