June 24th

I’d like to share a couple of pics from my birthday. I wish I could turn the creative part of my brain back on. I somehow feel like forming a complete, coherent thought is difficult these days! I catch myself wandering around Wal-Mart in daze; I so easily shut down! Maybe it’s a mom thing because I spend most of my energy on my family. It’s definitely making blogging difficult!

My bestest, longtime childhood friend, Elizabeth, spent three days with me last week. It was so nice to have her company. She left the morning of my birthday, after James snapped this pic of us. I think we’ve aged well, girlfriend! (Some of our childhood pictures are rather scary!) We met as pre-schoolers and became friends in first grade. She looked like Melissa Gilbert as Laura Ingalls. I looked horrible with my giant cow lick. Liz thought I’d cut my bangs off! Our friendship grew stronger during our Duran Duran days and has perservered throughout all the joys and pains of our adult lives.

My girls decorated a cake for me at Mom’s. Anjelia kept blowing the candles out while we were trying to get a picture! They are such sweet girls when it comes to birthdays. They were so happy for me and I so enjoyed them.

I have been so lazy with my camera. I wish I had more pictures to show. James and I kept waiting to ask someone to take one of us but we never got around to it. We need to have more pictures taken together.

The most important thing in life is to learn how to give out love, and to let it come in.” Morrie Schwartz

Resurrection Day

Praise the LORD, O my soul;
all my inmost being, praise his holy name.
Praise the LORD, O my soul,
and forget not all his benefits–
who forgives all your sins
and heals all your diseases,
who redeems your life from the pit
and crowns you with love and compassion,
who satisfies your desires with good things
so that your youth is renewed like the eagles’s.
Psalm 103: 1-5

Mom D’s lilac bush bloomed for the first time this year!

Tori (Carl and Mary’s daughter) and my four gathered for a pose after our worship service.

We had dinner with James’ Mom and Dad at their place. We had a good time and their homemade ice cream with crushed oreos is to die for!! It’s nice to go to the country where there isn’t traffic noise!

The girls love to throw rocks in the pond.

birthday pics

Lydia chose to see Ice Age, The Meltdown as a family for her birthday celebration. We had a great time eating popcorn and hot dogs, while watching the show together. Afterward, we took the girls to Wal-mart to do a little shopping. By the end of the evening we (James and I) were wore out and ready to get the wound up girls to bed!

I love mother-daughter pictures!

Lydia just had to have her picture taken with the X-Men claw!!

Happy 8th Birthday, Lydia Grace

Lydia is such a special kid. She is independent and creative. She looks out for other kids and tries to include them (with the exeption of her sisters, sometimes!!). Her teacher describes her as patient and kind-hearted. (Just so you know I’m not the only one that brags on her!)

I overslept this morning, so it ended up being a hectic morning. I only got the one snapshot above, but I will post more pics later. James and I decorated Lydia’s room last night. We strung orange and pink streamers everywhere. She got a new bike and a Hello Kitty outfit to wear to school. She’s going to open her sister’s gifts after school.

Jessica’s birthday part 2

Well, we’re back from a fun night of partying. Jessica opened her gifts from her sisters after school. Lydia bought her a Strawberry Shortcake doll, Elaina gave her a Barbie Mermaid and Anjelia was proud to give her another cute doll. Jessica practiced riding her new bike and then we headed for Chuck E. Cheese. The pizza was actually pretty good. The girls had a blast playing games. I think James has as much fun as the girls. He loves to play skeet ball and win lots of tickets for them. God is so good to us. A gentlemen gave the girls 1000 tickets tonight! They were able to “shop” and get some neat things. It was yet another birthday blessing. (Jessica’s bike rang up half price at the register!)

I made Jessica one of her favorite cakes, Red Velvet. I finally got Mom’s wonderful cream cheese icing recipe from her. I grew up eating this delicious icing. She used it on all her cakes. Mary, I owe you a cake with this frosting!

Cream Cheese Icing

1 – 8 oz. package cream cheese
1/4 cup oleo
1 3/4 cup powdered sugar
1 tsp. vanilla

Cream all ingredients and ice while cake is warm.

Celebrate good times!

Today is a very special day for our daughter Jessica and my cousin Debbie! Happy Birthday, Girls!!! My Jessica is seven years old today!!! God chose for them to share birthdays and He also chose for Debbie to take part in Jessica’s name. At the time of Jessica’s adoption, we were able to change her name. Debbie e-mailed me with the idea of changing her middle name to Faith. IT WAS THE PERFECT NAME! My cousin Kandis has a beautiful post today in honor of my cousin Debbie. Please check it out HERE. I want everyone to see all the pics.

Yesterday was Tom’s birthday. We have been good friends with Tom and Karen for like fourteen years. Tom’s a great guy who loves to laugh big and loud at his own jokes! MOST of the time everyone else laughs too!!!! Tom has a very serious side when it comes to men’s ministry and his work with kids at the children’s hospital. Tom has a bible study group that he leads and he is one of the men in charge of men’s ministry at their church. Maybe if I get time I’ll post a crazy picture soon! Happy Birthday Tom! Check out Karen’s birthday post HERE.

We couldn’t wait for the kids to go to sleep last night. They were so wound up about Jessica’s birthday. Finally, they all slipped into deep sleep and we snuck into Jessica’s room. James and I decorated it with balloons and placed a really cool brand new bike at the foot of her bed!!! I couldn’t wait for her to wake up this morning. She came running out and asked if we knew there was a bike in her room!!! James put four dollars in the purse on the handle bars.

The girls were excited to help her celebrate!

Jessica wanted microwave sausage and biscuits for her birthday breakfast. Kids are so funny! I told her I’d make her anything and that’s what she picked! She has a special birthday plate and cup she uses each year.

Her Daddy gave her a special journal.

I gave her a new outfit to wear to school!

She asked James to please come home early! She wants to open her gifts from her sisters and head to Chuck E. Cheese for pizza and tokens!!

Please check out last year’s birthday post in honor of Jessica’s sixth birthday HERE.

Happy birthday Mary!

I adore pictures of cute old ladies! Here we are Mary! I can see us now!

In honor of my friend Mary’s birthday, I thought I’d give one of her favorite drinks a nod! As you know, I’m a proud coffee consumer. Mary has a more refined taste for Earl Grey tea. It’s always a pleasure to sit and share our favorite hot drinks together, especially when it involves a yummy dessert! Happy birthday, Mary!!! I hope you and Carl have a wonderful day together.

In honor of your love for children’s literature, I give you this childhood poem.

TEA PARTY

I had a little tea party, this afternoon at three
Twas very small, three guests in all, I, Myself, and Me
Myself ate up the sandwhiches, while I drank up the tea
Twas also I who ate the pie and passed the cake to me!

Happy Birthday, Mom!

March 13th is a great day made special by my mom’s birth! Thirteen is my favorite number. Despite it’s bad reputation, this number is special to James and I. God has redeemed this number for us! It’s popped up in our life too often to even consider it a coincidence. I am NOT superstitious, but I do believe it’s a number of promise for me and I have no doubt God purposefully chose the 13th to be the date of my mom’s birth. How fortunate for me! My mom is a great mom and a patient, loving grandma.

I love going out to Mom and Larry’s farm. I especially love to take pictures. There are so many interesting and pretty things to capture. *I thought in honor of Mom’s birthday I’d share a few pics from the farm.

*I apologize for the pixilated photos. They’re beautifully clear pictures but when I turn them into an animated gif it compromises the quality of my photos.

Word cloud

Thanks to Sarah at Cool Cucumber, I’ve discovered Snapshots. This website will scan your blog and build a word cloud using your most frequently used words. The larger and bolded words add extra emphasis to those words that are used most often. Very cool. I could purchase a t-shirt from them with my word cloud on the front. Tempting, but I appreciate the use of the word cloud for my site.

I love the words that were selected. I believe they are a true reflection of my life. Just reading them made my heart smile real big!!

Words are alive; cut them and they bleed.” Ralph Waldo Emerson

Birthday Announcements!

Yesterday was my Grandma Vera’s 81st birthday. I didn’t have the pleasure of growing up near my Grandma, but I always looked forward to seeing her on traveling visits. One of my best childhood memories of Grandma was a visit we went on to see her in Nebraska. I absolutely loved garage saling when I was a kid. My main objective was to find as many stuffed animals as possible. My mom would often tell me, “No more stuffed animals!”. I totally didn’t get why my mom would have a problem with me getting more. It just didn’t make sense to me. (Now I completely understand and I often tell my own girls the same thing!) We went garage saling with Grandma and she let me pick out whatever stuffed animals I wanted!!! If I remember correctly, she let me get quite a few. I thought I’d died and gone to heaven!! We took them back to her house and she spent the afternoon washing them for me and getting them into tip top shape! I remember her brushing their hair. I’ve always treasured that memory. I felt very special that day. Happy Birthday, Grandma!

My Dad-In-Law, Richard, celebrated his birthday this week, as well. Unfortunately he’s been very sick. Dad D has been a big support to James and I over the years. James often calls him for advice, as he has helped James get his business up and running. He’s been able to help provide us the wonderful opportunity to be self-employed. I know it’s going to pay off big someday! Richard is a good man and I am very honored to have married into his family. I am proud to have the family name!!

MERRY CHRISTMAS FROM MY FAMILY TO YOURS!

A dear family friend surprised me with matching Christmas dresses for my girls and I!

May God be glorified in the coming year through our lives and families and friendships. Thanks be to God!
