Celebrating Tootsie

Jules —  March 7, 2005

My mom’s sister, Aunt Marlis, e-mailed me some pictures of some of her newest artwork! Perfect timing to show off her stuff on my new blog!

She is the oldest of Grandma Vera’s six daughters!! We like to call her by her nickname, Tootsie.

I’ve always admired Tootsie’s strength as a woman and her zest for life. She’s enjoying her retirement at the lake and is busy taking care of her husband Richard. She makes the best brown gravy you’ll ever taste!!!

Tootsie uses acrylics mostly for her medium, but likes using watercolor and Gouache for backgrounds. She enjoys designing her own cards and we love receiving them! She is serving her second year as secretary of the Ozark Brush and Palette Club in Camdenton Mo. She is also a member of the Creative Arts Guild in Osage Beach, Mo.

When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left and could say, “I used everything you gave me.”~Erma Bombeck

  1. Great stuff…that Lighthouse looks like one we saw in South Carolina years ago when we were on vacation there. I remember Tori freaking out about maybe going up in it but don’t remember the whole story.

  2. Wow, I just love art. Your aunt is really gifted!

  3. Love the art!!! I wish I could be in the one with the lighthouse and palm trees.

Your Aunt seems like such a neat lady. I would love to meet her someday. I hope that when I get older and the kids are out of the house, I get really good at something I love.

  4. Hi Julie!

Just wanted to pop in and tell you I love your new blog. I’m very impressed, as I’m still trying to master the simplest of tasks on the computer.

What a talented aunt! Like Karen I think I want to be somewhere with Palm trees right about now. But, I can’t complain. I just got back from Savannah GA a few weeks ago & saw plenty of palm trees there.

  5. I truly love the comment of Erma Bombeck, that’s exactly how I feel. I read it to some of my club buddies today when we painted at the Gallery. They feel the same way.

  6. I also like Erma’s comment. I am proud to have such a talented Sister. Love you sight. Hope it brings you into a lot of adult company. We love you, you are so sweet with a precious family, those 4 sweet lil girls. We love you too James.

  7. Hi Julie, Just another of your old Aunts signing in. I like your new sight too. I love Marlis’s paintings and have one hanging in my living room. Kathy does a great job making jewelry and paints lovely things on glass, stone, and etc. I’m so glad you have such a good friend, everybody needs one. Love you all much Aunt Linda
