Christmas morning

Are there better family moments than Christmas morning? What joy! Every difficult parenting moment throughout the year seems a small price to pay for the joy of being with children on Christmas morning!

James gave the girls and me Christmas jammies on Christmas Eve. We sprinkled oatmeal in the driveway for the reindeer, set out Santa’s milk and cookies and tucked the anxious and tired girls into their beds. I set out on my three hour excursion to pick up Lydia and Jessica’s animals. The kitten stayed at my sister’s home for a month, while the guinea pigs stayed with Carl, Mary and Tori. Thanks so much for your help!

On most Christmas mornings the girls wake us up and drag us out of bed, but this year James and I were wide awake at the first sound of kids whispering while excitedly running up and down the stairs. We couldn’t wait to surprise Lydia and Jessica!!

The suspense of what could be in these big boxes had been eating at them for over a week. After digging out the packing and finding the pictures of their pets, they just sat there confused and almost disappointed acting.

James told them to go to our bedroom and they jumped up with funny looks on their faces. Unfortunately, I could not follow them. Anjelia woke up very sick and was about 3 minutes from puking. (After puking she perked up and was perfectly healthy for the rest of the day. Thank you, Lord.) I immediately heard Lydia start screaming followed by loud crying. She came out carrying the kitten while bawling her eyes out. She said, “I can’t believe it; it’s a dream come true”.

Jessica loves her guineas. They seem like the perfect pets for her. She’ll sit and watch tv for an hour while they sit and snuggle with her. She’s been begging for some kind of furry critter to care for.

Scooter and the kitten meet for the first time!

Elaina and Anjelia had a wonderful Christmas, too!

Lydia, Jessica and Elaina received their coveted Barbie Girl Mp3 players from Santa!!!

Jessica shared her music with the grandmas!

Oh, here’s Snowball the other guinea pig.

We built a big cage for the piggies! I’ll post pics of it soon. They are the cutest, funniest critters!

Lydia named her kitten, Landon. He snuggles to her all night long. They are inseparable. Lydia was thrilled when she found out he likes car rides!

I’m dreading Christmas break being over. I’ve really enjoyed my days with the kids. I love not having the morning rush. It will be good to get back into a routine again. . . I guess.

  1. I FORGOT TO MENTION MY ELECTRIC BLANKET!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU, JAMES. I LOVE my electric blanket. I sleep like a baby. It’s my cocoon.

  2. I’m so glad your surprises worked out just as you planned! And the kitten and piggies are so cute and look like they’ll be well-loved.

We had a wonderful Christmas and the boys loved what they got. But we didn’t have any screaming or tears of joy here. I don’t have a clue what I’d have to get for them to get that kind of a reaction–it would definitely have to have wheels and more power! hee hee

  3. Chris and I just read your Christmas story and we were giggling with you!!! What a wonderful day. I toyed with the pet idea, but I am just not ready yet, but I can’t wait until we can get one.

  4. The pictures came out great! What a wonderful joy it must have been to hear the cries and screams of joy from the girls. Everything was well planned with the pets. The girls will always remember.

  5. I’m thrilled to see your Christmas pics. What fun. You have such great originality for your holidays and parties. Thanks for sharing. Anjelia must have just been sick from anticipation. See ya soon.

  6. Thanks, Tootsie. I have lots of fun planning stuff. I’ve been a bit worn out from Christmas fun. I feel very rested today and James is home!!!!! I just love it when he’s home and he’s going to be home tomorrow, too! I’m spoiling him. I have a spiral cut, glazed ham in the oven. He’s been craving ham. I’m going to make him a delicious, rich hot chocolate drink from Ghiradhelli chocolate.

Some friends of ours have invited us to their home tomorrow. We are really looking forward to being at someone’s home for New Years!

  7. Mom D, I was hoping to create a very memorable Christmas for the girls. I’m glad you were able to be there.

Trish, I can’t believe that I’m wanting pets. For quite some time the last thing I wanted was something else to care for. Elaina is now wanting something so we made up a new family rule: You must be at least 8 years old to have a pet!

  8. Debbie, I giggled at the thought of your boys screaming and crying tears of joy over something. There are very few moments in life when we are that overjoyed. It was fun to witness.

  9. I’m also serving spiral ham for our get together and turkey. The hot chocolate sounds good. I almost fixed me a cup last night, but now you really got me wanting a cup.

  10. I enjoyed reading your blog yesterday. I felt jealous. I so wished I could’ve been in the sweet south last night. It sounded like everyone was having so much fun!

  11. Did you have any suprises on New Years Eve? Or did you use up all your energy planning for Christmas Morning?

We went to Deb’s inlaws for New years. We had a lot of fun and Kathy & Linda were there to with their hubbys. I won’t go into detail, it’s on Marlis blog.

Gil is all stuffy this morning, not feeling to well. I give him some allergy medicine hoping that will take care of it, we have to drive home tomorrow so I want him in tip top shape. Hope you all out there just get to be lazy today and enjoy the parade or what ever you like to do on New Year’s day. God Bless all of you.

  12. We stayed at home as a family and relaxed and enjoyed each other’s company. We had a great time. Nothing fancy. James decided to spend the evening relaxing with our family and not doing any entertaining. I’m sure it’s relaxing for him to get to just veg during his time off. I know he needs that.

My sinuses hurt badly today. It’s real off and on. I’m sorry that Gil is icky feeling. It’s so hard to drive when your sinuses hurt. It makes me feel so draggy. I’ll say a prayer for both of you.

  13. I’m so glad James had a couple days at home! The ham sounded scrumptious.

So what did Lydia name her kitty?

Happy New Year!! I’m excited to see what God is going to do in all our families this next year.

  14. She named her kitten, Landon.

    Happy New Year!!!!!

  15. Gil was feeling better on our drive home today and so was I, so I was able to drive more and help relieve him some. We got safely home and now I need to get everything unpacked.

  16. Now you need to get rested up for Saturday!
