He sings over us!

Jules —  August 2, 2005

Tonight, Mary and I went to the women’s fellowship meeting at our church. A woman named, Kerry, spoke about the ministry she shares with her husband as missionaries in Mexico. The theme of her sermonette was God’s love for us. She shared some wonderful scriptures that are too encouraging to keep to myself.

“The Lord your God is with you, he is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing.” Zephaniah 3:17

God is so very thrilled with us! He sings happy songs over us! How much would our outlook change if we could begin to truly grasp the fact that when God looks at us, he smiles with a great, big, toothy, grin! He delights in us!!! He isn’t up above, looking down on us, frowning, with his arms crossed. He is our Abba Daddy. We are his sons and daughters-princes and princesses!

She shared a verse that made me think of something Aunt Marilyn posted to Kandi about it being a time of rebuilding for her.

“I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with loving-kindness. I will build you up again and you will be rebuilt. Again you will take up your tambourines and go out to dance with the joyful.” Jeremiah 31:3

May we all allow Him to build us up so that we will go out dancing, proclaiming his name!

O Lord, you have searched me and you know me.
You know when I sit and when I rise, you perceive my thoughts from afar.
You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways.
Before a word is on my tongue you know it completely, O Lord.
You hem me in-behind and before; you have laid your hand upown me.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain.
Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence?
If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea,
even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.
If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me,”
even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you.
For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.
My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth,
your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.

How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them! Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand.Psalm 139

He thinks about us all the time! I hope that I can become a more and more passionate person as God helps me to understand the depth of His passionate love for me.

  1. He sings over us! That’s something I’ve never read in the Bible. (Old Testament minor prophets isn’t my first choice of reading).

I’d LOVE to hear God sing–I can’t even begin to imagine what that must be like–my brain’s having trouble getting wrapped around that image! And someday we’ll get to hear Him sing! Such an uplifting thought to hold in my heart today! I confess I haven’t had my quiet time this morning–Zechariah 3 would be a good place to start. Thank you for sharing that, Julie–what an awesome fellowship you all had last night.

  2. Oops–I mean Zephaniah 3. I had to come back and recheck the Scripture. I was in the wrong book!

  3. Zechariah 10:8 (New American Standard Bible)

“I will whistle for them to gather them together, For I have redeemed them; And they will be as numerous as they were before.”

He not only sings, He whistles!!

  4. I guess I need to read the O.T. more. I had never heard that either about God singing. I will definately think of Him in a new way now. Don’t remember any Pastors mentioning that either,
Or whistling in a sermon. Thanks Julie for the new pic of God.

  5. Wow, this really moved me, Jules. The OT is having that effect on me lately. My ex-GF said something to me before we parted that has stuck with me — “may the presence of God be so close, you’ll feel His breath on your face.” When I read passages like this, I think I feel that. They bring me to tears.

  6. This verse about God singing stuck with me all day. And God reinforced it by showing it to me again while I was hanging out with Grandma Vera at Aunt Kelli’s. I had already looked at Kelli’s birthday cards during her party on Saturday, but when I was re-reading them with the boys today, I noticed Audrie’s card was printed with Zeph. 3:17! God’s really trying to tell me something today! Uncle Alex played a CD for me by Dennis Jernigan based on that verse, “When the Night is Falling”–beautiful song; one of Uncle Alex’s favorites. I think he said that Dennis Jernigan also recorded another song based on that verse–“There is a Fountain.”

  7. Very awesome!!! He loves us so much and wants us to know it and feel it!

    Thanks for sharing y’all!

  8. I remember being astonished at that the first time I read it. It is so good to read it again and again.

I always wonder what it would be like to hear God tell a joke. He has humor, he created it. It would probably be so hilarious that we would laugh for a thousand years and then say “tell us another one!”

  10. Hi,
I wanted to tell everyone that Grandma is fine.
She is home and rested. Alex’s mom is with her
during the day today. Her medicines have been
changed and it is helping. I thought this section
was best place to post it. Dennis Jernigan has a
song “When the Night is Falling” I wish you all
could hear it it’s beautiful.God says to us in this song “How I Love You Child I Love You” It talks about Him singing over us in our dark times. I love you all so much and I am grateful for this site. I don’t get on much but when I do I
so am blessed. I want to be able to put pictures on a site and do great stuff like you do Julie. You bless us all in so many ways and I want you to know that so you use that lap top like a pro or what did you call those ladies “yuppies”. You so have a ministry to your family and friends. Thanks be to God for what He is doing in our lives!

  11. Thanks Kelli. :love

I am glad Gma is home. :flowers
