meet me under the mistletoe

A new tradition for Carl’s G.I.F.T. challenge — mistletoe!

Mistletoe

Walter De La Mare

Sitting under the mistletoe
(Pale-green, fairy mistletoe),
One last candle burning low,
All the sleepy dancers gone,
Just one candle burning on,
Shadows lurking everywhere:
Someone came, and kissed me there.

Tired I was; my head would go
Nodding under the mistletoe
(pale-green, fairy mistletoe),
No footsteps came, no voice, but only,
just as I sat there, sleepy, lonely,
Stooped in the still and shadowy air
Lips unseen — and kissed me there
.

None of the local floral shops had any mistletoe in stock. Apparently there isn’t much demand for it anymore. I found some at the floral department of a large grocery store.

We’ve really been enjoying having this stuff hanging around!

Jessica stands under it giggling, waiting for her Daddy to pass by. This time she got me!

In all the years I’ve been married to her son, I’ve never kissed Mom D — until now!!!

Bonus pic:

Anjelia has the cutest little Santa girl outfit. She needed some black boots to complete the ensemble. I purchased her a pair this evening. She was sooooo excited about her new boots that she wore them to bed!! She had to change out of her footie jammies into a nightgown, so she could wear them. I had to sneak in the dark and pull her covers down. It’s so dang cute!!!

  1. Awww, how sweet is that! I should try to find some as well. McKenna would get a kick out of it!

  2. Jules:
What store did you find it in? I need some for next year!
    k

  3. McKenna would LOVE mistletoe!

Kandis, I bought it at Hy-Vee. They had a lot.

  4. The mistletoe would be a hoot around here! There would be screams and yells of “Oh, Gross!” from the boys. Tom and I might find ourselves just parked under the thing! hee hee

The boots – that is so great! Kids are so funny. I love how excited they get about things that they must sleep with them. Too cute!!!!

  5. You know, I don’t know if I have ever seen fresh mistletoe before. That was interesting. Don’t forget “it’s not for human consumption”! Packaging cracks me up sometimes. Someone must have decided that mistletoe looked like a yummy snack somewhere along the line.

I think I am chatty today. I need someone to talk to!!! Blah blah blah. . .. 😐

  6. Pick up the phone!!!!!!! I need some motivation!

Maybe someone was short on salad fixings and thought the guests would not know the difference!

I can’t stop looking at the picture of James and I. I feel like I haven’t gotten past the giddy school girl phase! I loved him as a boy and I love him so so much more as a man! I am so tickled. I know that’s so sappy. Fish slap me!

  7. :fish :fish :fish :fish :fish

That’s sweet, Jules! I was thinking yesterday how much I love Tom. I was thanking God that I married my best friend and I go through life with a good marriage and someone to just laugh with!!

  8. The Mistletoe was a hoot,Julie! It was fun and your right. I believe it was the first time you gave me a kiss, dear daughter-in-law. But you always give me hugs.

Grandaughters are fun and we had Jessica and Elaina come over to help decorate our home for christmas. I bought a 5′ fake pine tree for them to enjoy. :love

  9. The girls had a great day at your house!

I am so glad you guys are enjoying your semi-retirement!! :band

I forgot to tell you on the phone that Lydia just got up and around and ate breakfast. She doesn’t have a fever!

  10. Remind me to be careful as I enter your home…I don’t want James kissing me, holiday cheer or not! :p

  11. Hehe! Don’t worry Carl, the only kisses you’ll get from our family will be from the girls! :love

  12. Love the mistletoe!

I am so glad Lydia is feeling better.

    Three is a terrific age!!!

  13. The mistletoe is starting to shrivel up. I guess if you were having a party, you would not want to purchase it too early.

I think Lydia will be going back to school tomorrow.

Three is so fun, Mary. Three, four and five are such fun ages.

  14. Looks like you all are having a lot of fun with that Mistletoe, Maybe it would be a fun investment for me too. We still enjoy the kissing game.

Precious pic of Anjelia, & Jessica. You and James are a wonderful couple, and so lovely & handsome. Trish & I watched a teary movie this eve. called “A Place for Annie”. I thought of you all when you were trying to get Jessica. I think it was worth our time. Be sure you have a hanky ready.

  15. It’s well worth the four dollars!

I haven’t seen that movie. Sometimes I love a good tear jerker.

  16. So glad that our little Lydia is feeling better. Hope the others don’t get the flu.

Thanks Julie for the celebration symble. Its starting to set in more each day that the shop is not ours anymore. It’s a bitter, sweet feeling with my emotions being here and there.

  17. Hey you guys are making me jealous. I have no for under the Mistletoe. Thats OK, I’ll catch Ian. I can hear him now.

I’m glad you are still happy. Thats the way it should be. How wonderful. To bad more aren’t. I think our family does pretty great about getting along.
