the smoke has cleared

The smoke has cleared, but there is still some debri left behind! James put on quite the show last night, with the help of his guy friends! Boys will be boys!

No one likes to blow stuff up as much as my hubby. The excitement around my house this last week has been hilarious, as James and Carl have shopped and planned. They must have made four trips to the friendly, neighborhood, firework distributor! The pile in our garage kept growing larger and larger! Thank goodness for discounts!

We were joined last night by 10 other adults, 3 teenagers, and 7 kiddos! I think we should’ve invited the whole town as I’m sure we had the best display going! By evenings end, we were all covered with soot and our street looked like a battle ground!

It took four guys lighting what must have been 6 to 8 big things at a time, to light up all the night stuff! CrAzY! They lit the stuff in the shop parking lot while we watched from our front lawn.

Of course, James took good care of the kiddos! They had much to keep them busy as we ate and waited for dusk.

Thanks, hon, for a wonderful evening! It was a blast! You are definitely not boring!

  1. How cool?!!! James, what is that big flag thing in the first picture? Were you guys lighting stuff off from saw horses?

Man, I sure missed the fun. But I had some good fun at our city display.

  2. It’s a bunch of saturn missiles! Yep, they made tables out of the shop’s saw horses.

I just came inside from sweeping the street and neighbor’s driveway. I am sticky sweaty. It’s not so much fun the next day. Thanks to everyone for staying and helping with clean up!

I think we may need to wash a car or two at the automotive business next door. Oops.

  3. I had so much fun last night. What an awesome display! Thanks!

  4. Glad you guys came. I e-mailed an awesome pic of you and Mike to Carl. If I knew your e-mail I’d send it to you. Maybe Carl can take care of that.

I love the sachet! Thanks for leaving some of that delicious cake for us. Yum!! You’re sweet!

  5. I can’t begin to tell you how much fun we had. It was great! Thanks again!!!!

  6. Here from Carl… I love your design.

  7. WOW! What beautiful smoke!!! Sounds like you all had a blast. We watched our town’s display,(free) that’s the kind of discount us seniors like, plus someone else sets them off and does all the work. We sure enjoyed them though. They had some neat new ones that went on & on & on.

  8. Cute picture of Elaina, what is she holding? you didn’t blow that up did you?

  9. It is called a pagoda. It pops up and looks like that at the end. When lit it spins and shoots pretty colors and then pops up and glows red on the inside for a few seconds. It’s one of the girls’ favorite things. James bought them each one.

  10. I love the dirt mustache Elaina has in that picture.

  11. Sounds like ya’ll and your friends had a good time. Here we had fireworks every night. (Sat., Sun, & Mon. it just wears you out looking back and forth and not miss them. The big one was Sat.nite. Ours is like Punkie’s, FREE, it don’t take much to make ya happy when your older. I should’nt say that, but for me it’s true. Good pic’s, keep them coming.

  12. Hey, I HEARD THAT!!!!!

  13. We enjoyed free fireworks this year, too. We just got back from visiting Trish. Steve’s sister is in the same city and lives on a boat docked in a huge bay. We relaxed on top of the deck and watched fireworks blasting all around. We kept joking that we were getting motion sickness from spinning our heads around to see the fireworks going off in all directions around the bay. Gorgeous, especially when they reflected off the water.

Steve and some neighbors usually get together and shoot off fireworks in our backyard, although nothing quite as massive as your all’s display. WOW

  14. As much as I enjoyed last night, I must say that sounds fantastic. A boat on the bay…gee, does it get any better than that?!!

James and Julie-Thank you so much for all of the GREAT festive fun and food! We all had such a FUN time…even Zoe! :) It was wonderful to meet you and to be welcomed so graciously! Also, your kids are SOOOO cute!

  16. We are glad you were able to join us. It was very nice to meet all of you. Now I have faces with names when Carl and Mary mention you! I’m sure we’ll meet again.

Did you leave a bag of Zoe toys?

  17. If they did we’ll get them and take them back to them later this summer. Parents!

  18. I’m going to get me one of those pagota’s next year. It looks real neat.

Please pray HARD for my back. I can’t seem to keep the anxiety at bay, even though I am looking forward to the youth trip. Of course Dennis had to rear his ugly head and we only have 2 more days to decide if we go now or not.

  19. The more I read your blog, the more I think our husbands would have a “blast” if they could hang out together! Especially after seeing your July 4th post-Steve LOVES fireworks–he wanted them at our wedding! I was more conservative then, but now I’d say GO FOR IT!

  20. Since we’re on fireworks, thought I’d tell you about the boom that shook our house the 4th at 11:00pm. I literally came up out of bed it was so loud and shook the house. Well it turned out to be an earthquake. 1.8 Richter. It was centered South of town about 2 miles. It came from 3 miles below the earth surface. I never heard them boom before, just shake everything up. Well, now that you’ve heard about my 4th, I shall quit. This is what we get for watching everyone else’s free. Aunt Tootsie

  21. I thought we were having an earthquake one night, it woke me up, but it turned out to be thunder. Am glad you are ok.
Steve should have spoke up Deb, we probably could have come up with something legal. It never occured to me. Yes I think James & Steve would have an enjoyable time together, and you and Julie too, of course noone else would be able to stand all the giggling.

  22. Mom, I’d say anyone in this family should be used to hearing giggling. ha If not, then they’ll just have to move on! I’ve never heard such big laughing as the women in this family! I love it!!! I guess it goes with our big teeth and creativity (and our exclamation points!!!!!!!!!)

“A cheerful heart is good medicine…”

  23. Since he didn’t get to shoot any off this year Steve was having fireworks withdrawal (that’s an official redneck disorder, I’m sure) Anyway,he tried to pick some up tonight on his way home from work, but found out our state doesn’t allow fireworks tents to sell after July 5. One lady had mercy on him and his sad story of 3 little boys at home waiting for him so she gave him 2 little pyramid fireworks. He set them off along with some screaming bottlerockets and little firecrackers left over from last year–maybe 5 minutes worth of fireworks. Afterwards, Christian said, “Dad, we always have the best fireworks show. That was even better than what we saw off the boat on 4th of July!”
Aren’t kids wonderful?! I hope they always stay so simply thankful!

  24. Mom (Marilyn), Happy Birthday to you! I love you and hope you have a wonderful day!

  25. I surprised Sis and showed up on her door step this Birthday day. We went down town and turned in THE PAINTING, I’m so glad she loves it so, she took the picture and is a big part of it. Happy Birthday Punky. Love Ya!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Tootsie

  26. Happy Birthday, Aunt Marilyn!

I love reading all of your comments! I’m glad Steve was able to please the boys so easily!

I did not know there were so many earthquakes down there.

  27. Thank you all for your Bday wishes. I was glad to have a visit from Sis Marlis this morn. just wish I could have spent more time with her. The lady she handed the painting to, said she really liked it too. Thought she did a wonderful job. I told her to just go ahead and put the blue ribbon on now. For some reason she couldn’t. Something about a contest, the others weren’t in yet. O well!!!!!
