a crowd pleaser

I’ve had this recipe for many years. I only make it a couple of times a year, but it’s a keeper. I find it really impresses people and yet it’s very easy to make. Yesterday I made this scrumptuous pastry for James and the guys for Valentine’s day. It’s an especially yummy breakfast treat when served with coffee.

Wreath Cake

10 oz (1 cup) marachino cherries, drained
8 oz. cream cheese, softened
1 cup chopped pecans (save some to sprinkle on top)
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 tsp. almond extract
2-8 oz. tubes crescent rolls

Chop cherries and nuts and add to cream cheese. Add sugar and extract.
Roll out dough into rectangle.
Spread filling onto dough (excluding edges).
Roll toward you. Pull up and pinch.
Put on cookie sheet in circle.
Make several two inch slits on top, around the circle.
Bake at 375 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes.

1 cup powdered sugar.
4 tsp. milk
1 tsp. almond extract

Let the cake cool and mix and drizzle icing over the top. Sprinkle on the remaining nuts. Slice and enjoy!

Kathryn, I know what you can do….play with the icons for a while (you gotta distract yourself here!! The blog addiction has got a hold of you!!). Icons are the little smiley faces above the comment box. When you type some words in, pick an appropriate smiley face to add. When you click on them, a description of the picture will appear in your comment box. After you click “Say it” and your message is entered in the blog, your pictures will appear. You must type in words first, then click on the icon. You can’t start with an icon.
    Love you, mean it!

  6. Hi all, good morning Kathy, you sound very needy this morning. I suppose you’d rather here from the others as I call all the time to check on Joe. Butch gets the blog on for me then reads it himself. He is my computer secretary. Remember to pray for the girls. Heather goes to court in a few days, both want full custody of the kids and Heather is laid off again! Tara talks to a naturalpathic therapist today to see if she can help her and she has a new Dr. to see next week also. Later. Linda

  7. Hey, Aunt Linda, it was good to see you on here too. Although I can’t let something slide by without saying something…..Now that you’ve bragged on your superior typing skills, you’d best prove it by actually posting on the blog more than once a year!! :indeed
And we need to hear from Lurker Uncle Butch too. And I KNOW there’s other quiet lurkers out there too, right, DAD?! You guys know this isn’t just a hen party. James, Rob, and Carl post so maybe the rest of you guys can too…once in a while!
All right–I’ve said my piece. I gotta go call in the boys from outside before they turn into icicles and get some school work done.

  10. Hi Debbie, You’re the only one that caught me bragging apparently. I really do remember how to do it fast and without looking at my fingers, but I had a great teacher. She was just a couple years older than us girls and she was fun but she worked us very hard too. :coolI don’t have to work today so I can talk all day if I want. Julie is this what your blog is for or are we wasteing your space?

  11. Oops, sorry, Tom–didn’t mean to leave you out.

Linda, we must have posted about the same time earlier. I didn’t see you post appear til after I sent mine in. Guess I won’t give you too hard of a time since you’ve now posted twice in 2 days. I will continue to pray for the girls–I know this has a long difficult journey for all of you. Scroll down to Julie’s blog entry titled “Set my face like flint.” It is a very encouraging post as well as everyone’s comments. I’ve come back to that thought several times in the past few weeks when things are difficult…I love that phrase and the verses.
God knows the desires of your heart for your daughters and family, and He IS listening even if at times, you may not be getting the answere you want yet. Know that we love you all.
