I’ve had this recipe for many years. I only make it a couple of times a year, but it’s a keeper. I find it really impresses people and yet it’s very easy to make. Yesterday I made this scrumptuous pastry for James and the guys for Valentine’s day. It’s an especially yummy breakfast treat when served with coffee.
Wreath Cake

Ingredients:
10 oz (1 cup) marachino cherries, drained
8 oz. cream cheese, softened
1 cup chopped pecans (save some to sprinkle on top)
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 tsp. almond extract
2-8 oz. tubes crescent rolls
Directions:
Chop cherries and nuts and add to cream cheese. Add sugar and extract.
Roll out dough into rectangle.
Spread filling onto dough (excluding edges).
Roll toward you. Pull up and pinch.
Put on cookie sheet in circle.
Make several two inch slits on top, around the circle.
Bake at 375 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes.
Icing:
1 cup powdered sugar.
4 tsp. milk
1 tsp. almond extract
Let the cake cool and mix and drizzle icing over the top. Sprinkle on the remaining nuts. Slice and enjoy!

Looks beautiful (and tasty!). Hope your Valentine’s Day was extra sweet!
Ohhhhhhhhhhh, this sounds and looks wonderful. Will try.
Got any left? I’ll be right over.
The guys gobbled it right up. By 11am there was none left. I think I’ve made it for our Christmas get-together, but that was several years ago.
Sarah, Valentine’s Day was very sweet for us all! :love
Will make these for Ian this weekend.
Me and Ian are celebrating Valentines this coming weekend.
I went out of state for work last weekend and totally forgot to have Mark help Ian make up his valentines and send to school on Friday so I am in the dog house with Ian.
But I told him “you knew where the box of valentines were, you could have mentioned this to dad, so you could have gotten them done in time”!!!
Ian will love these since there are marachino cherries in them, he can eat a whole little jar of those things if I let him.
Sometimes when I make him lime jello I put a bunch of marachino cherries in the jello, he loves them!!!
Kandi, when he grows up he’s going to remember all the special treats you make for him! :king
As you know I hate these kinds of desserts but I will say that it looks very well done and Mary would sell both kidneys for one serving, I have no doubt about it!
You might like it Carl. It’s not really a cake. It’s a pastry. :cool
Looks yummy!!!
I made the sage porkchops last night and they were a hit!! Thanks for the recipe.
I’ll have to try this one, too. Probably me and Jaden would have to polish off the whole thing by ourselves. Tom doesn’t like anything cherry. . .and you know Julian (healthiest kid on the planet!).
Carl, you’re just weird! Julie, this is the kind of dessert I live for: coffee-worthy pastries! Looks incredible.
I agree Rob, weird I am. I don’t like pastry either Jules. Just not a big dessert person unless its ice cream or chocolate cream pie. I’ll freely admit that I’m the freak here and am happy for all of you who have more sophisticated dessert taste buds than myself. :rotfl
The guys were asking me this morning when you were making this again. They loved it!
It looks wonderful! Thanks for the recipe; I must make it soon.
Does the almond extract taste strong in the icing? Don’t know if I would like that.
Karen, I’m glad you guys liked the chops!
Carl, you’re probably better off being dessert picky! They’re hard on the waistline! But I still think you’re missing out!
Rob, no doubt you’d enjoy them!
James, I promise to make them again soon! I was thinking about making some of those oatmeal cookies for the guys.
Mary, I am not into real nutty flavors and I think this icing is delicious. I think you would like it real well. Enjoy!
Oh and Mary, this would be just as yummy with hot tea as with coffee.
This looks yummy! Mary, if you don’t like the flavor of almond, you can put in a dash of vanilla instead.
Julie, have you ever made this with cherry or apple pie filling? I was just wondering if that would work or if it’d get too messy (I’ve got a can of cherry filling in my pantry just begging to be made into something yummy!)
Yes, and I’m so trim!
ops
Deb, I ‘ve never substituted, so I am not sure. If you try something different, let me know if you liked it.
Carl, I don’t think you have much to worry about.
I tease James about his tummy and he says that’s not fair, he could never get by with doing that to me!!
I think its when you rub James’ belly and ask for 3 wishes that his feelings get hurt. :cry
I think it would taste good with the cherry pie filling but it will probably get messy with the cream cheese and thickner in the cherries. If you could some how seperate some of the thickening out I think it would be good. Even if you can’t it would probably make a nice gooey dessert.
I’m bored (don’t tell Mom), so we’re playing with your emoticons…

Julie, for all those times I’ve fixed your smilies on my blog… help me out, will you?
Rob, they won’t work without a word or something in front of them. It’s a weird glitch.
Hey, I hope you and Sarah plan to come hungry. I am making taco soup. Does that sound good? If not you better give me a call. Haven’t decided about dessert yet. We are all really looking forward to your visit! The kids are bouncing off the walls.

Well I was off the air all day yesterday. My step son put in a new computer for us. His fiance gave it to us. So one of these days Kandi will be emailing from home, cause she gets my old outfit. This one is 512 megabites. I can’t hardly keep up with it.

This is fantastic! I haven’t been on the computer for 24 hours; what a surprise! Aunt Kathryn I’m so glad to hear from you. I am not good at keeping in touch long distance. This blog really helps. Please keep posting. And yes it’s addicting!! Fortunately, I have a lap top that can go where I go, so I don’t have to stop what I’m doing and go to the computer!
Mom doesn’t have access to the work computer like she used to. We would give her a computer for home, but she doesn’t have a land line.
Aunt Kathryn, I saw your comment on my Merry Christmas post. I left a comment for you there.
OH and the more you comment the faster typist you’ll become. Practice, practice, practice!
This is wonderful to see Kathy on here, I can hardly contain myself. :cry
Joe, so glad you are feeling alot better. With that lovely nurse of yours I have no doubt you will be in top notch soon. We’ll keep praying for you.
Kathy, I take it you mean you want to save some of the pictures. Just have Deb show you. I know she can, and she is right there. It might be harder on the blog to explain to you.
Hey, Kathryn, How much of that earring money is my commission? Just kidding. Glad I was good for something for once. :indeed So glad to hear all the (info) on Joe. Glad he is getting back on his feet. Prayer works :worship
I feel like I just stepped into the chicken coop and there is a new chick on the roost. I sure can feel the excitement, everyone is so glad you are here. Love ya all.
P.s. Keep Gil in your prayers, his knees hurt most of the time. March 15 is D-day :cry
What happens on D-day? Surgery?
Yes, he is having the top part of both knees replaced and a new disk replaced also while they are in there. The disk goes inbetween the top and bottom parts of each knee. He will be in B hospital in Kandi’s town. Time of surgery around 9a.m.
Yikes! I thought he had his knees replaced already.
He did but the cement is disappearing into some where, I don’t understand, so there are gaps now between the bone and artifical knee and causes pain and loss of balance. His last knee was replaced in Aug. 04. The 1st one was a couple of years before that.
That sounds so painful. Too bad he has to have them worked on again. I’ll be praying for his surgery and recovery.
I can’t believe I see Kathryn here. I didn’t even know she had a computer. The kids and I just got home from the arcade at the mall across the street. We were there 45 min and only spent a quarter!!! They like to just sit in the seats and pretend drive with the steering wheels and gear shift. I was trying to do something outside the house so Chris could have some alone time. It’s only 22 degrees outside here!
Love ya all!
I talked with Aunt Kathryn tonite–I think we have a new blog “addict” in the family! :indeed :rotfl
We’ll have to teach her how to use the icons next (and of course, the use of !!!!!!)
Hi all, it’s me Linda D. Can’t beleive we got Kathy on the blog. Butch just informed me you were all on here yakking away. Unlike Kathy I took typing in High School and am an exellent typist to this day. I’m glad Joe is better, sorry Gil is in pain, and hope all the rest of you are fine. We’ll keep praying for Gil.I can’t wait to see all of you in May. Marlis hope you do well in your show. Kathy and Kelling we’ll see you in April for a couple of days. Love you all!
So. . . Is Uncle Butch a lurker on my blog? Glad to have him too!!! :indeed
Where is Popcorn? Thats the only one missing. No, No Kelli did’nt get on today or even lately. Popcorn heard about wireless laptops and is thinking. The satilite ones, thats what it was. I spelled it wrong. They are pretty expensive I imagine. Popcorn is Nita.
After having the flue :puke for two weeks I want to eat everthing in sight!!!
This picture of food looks so good to me.
But easy does it when the stomic says ” Just take it slow and easy” :indeed
Well Linda brought it up. I did not make it into the Missouri Nationals Art show with my painting of “Grandpa’s Polka” (Richards hands on the accordian). It’s OK, you can’t get in unless you try. I have another show coming up that I know I’m in.
